Route 6 from Newcastle CBD to the University is a pleasant ride along cycleways and quite backstreets, but has two terrible crossings that are not safe and need remediation. The route crosses busy Maud St in Waratah to get from Vera St to Prince St. There is a small centre refuge, however traffic is heavy and there are restricted sight lines. The best alternative would be to bypass the area by building a cycleway along the railway corridor.
